Designed in 1880 by architect William Tutin Thomas, Le Mount Stephen was built as the residence of Sir George Stephen, a Scottish–Québécois business leader, philanthropist, and president of both the Bank of Montréal and the Canadian Pacific Railway. In 1962, the mansion became the Mount Stephen Club, an exclusive gentlemen’s business club that welcomed notable figures, including Princess Margaret and Pierre Elliott Trudeau.

Today, this national historic site has been reborn as a modern boutique hotel, event destination, and all-day dining destination. Original features—from 300-year-old stained-glass windows to 15-foot Ceylon satinwood panels and 22-carat gold fixtures—have been meticulously restored, celebrating the mansion’s Victorian charm while providing a contemporary setting for every occasion.
